Dr Salena provides therapy to adults and older adolescents (i.e. 16+), and sees people of all genders and cultural backgrounds. Please note, Dr Salena only provides therapy in English.

Psychological (face-to-face) therapy, Telehealth services and App Support packages are currently available. 

Telehealth services involve the provision of psychological therapy via a video consultation or telephone session. To access Telehealth, all you need is a device on which you can access the internet (e.g. desktop, laptop or smartphone), a stable and secure internet connection and preferably a pair of headphones to improve sound quality and reduce noise disruptions.

Dr Salena does not provide the following:

  • Court reports
  • Forensic services
  • Educational services or intelligence testing

The preferred way to book an appointment is via the secure, online booking link found on the homepage or directly from Halaxy’s website.

Online bookings offer immediate confirmation and are quick and easy to book in advance!

If the appointment is for an adolescent client, please email the following details: (1) Full name and D.O.B of client (2) Full name and title of legal parent/ guardian

After booking your initial appointment online, you will receive an online booking confirmation email and also an online Client Intake form to complete. This will take approximately 5-10 minutes.

Once you complete the online Client Intake form, all details will be securely transferred to your client file so there will be no further paperwork for you to complete.

You will then be sent some information to help you prepare for your first appointment.

All subsequent online bookings will then be confirmed via an appointment confirmation email.

Your initial appointment will consist of a thorough clinical assessment.

A clinical assessment involves finding out about your current presenting issues, how they developed over time as well as how they are affecting you and your current functioning. You may also be asked to complete additional questionnaires, if appropriate.

Dr Salena will then develop a detailed treatment plan specifically tailored to your therapy goals and expectations.

If Dr Salena believes that you may benefit from additional professional support, such as with an Accredited Practicing Dietitian (APD) or psychiatrist, or believes that another psychologist or professional may be a better fit for your needs, this will be openly discussed with you.

Each appointment is 60 minutes long, consisting of approximately 50 minutes of therapy and 10 minutes for clinical record keeping and liaising.

Appointments are available on Wednesdays and Thursdays between 10:00am to 6:30pm.

Telehealth appointments may also be available at other times, depending on Dr Salena’s availability. Please send an email to admin@drsalenab.com.au if you are interested in booking an appointment outside of these times. A different fee may apply.

The number of appointments needed varies from person to person depending on a number of factors.

After completing the clinical assessment, Dr Salena will provide you with a treatment plan as well as an initial estimated time frame for completing the treatment plan.

You may end up achieving your therapy goals in a shorter time frame or it may take longer to complete your treatment plan if there are changes in your circumstances or there are certain “stuck points” in therapy.

It is of utmost importance that you feel informed and confident about how your therapy is progressing so if there are any concerns, you are always welcome to discuss them with Dr Salena.

The regularity of appointments can depend on the issues you are seeking support for as well as the type of therapies being used. However, in general, it is helpful to attend therapy regularly upon first commencing i.e. weekly or fortnightly, in order to consolidate the new information and skills you are learning and receive regular support.

Once you became more confident in your skills and start seeing positive outcomes, appointments can be extended to every 3 to 4 weeks. You may then come back for refresher sessions once in a while or on a need’s basis.

A GP mental health treatment plan is provided under the Medicare Better Access initiative to improve access to psychological services for those who are struggling with mental health issues.

This plan is commonly provided by GPs, but you may also be referred by your psychiatrist.

In any calendar year (i.e. from January- December), you can receive up to 10 Medicare rebates under a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan.

After 6 sessions, a letter will be sent to your GP/ referrer and you will be advised to see your GP to pick up a re-referral for further sessions, if needed. Many people need more than 10 sessions to complete their treatment plan, so may rely on private health insurance after they have used their Medicare rebates.

In any calendar year (i.e. from January- December), you can receive up to 40 Medicare rebates under an Eating Disorder Treatment Plan.

After every 10 sessions, a letter will be sent to your GP / referrer and you will be advised to see your GP to pick up a re-referral for further sessions, if needed.

Dr Salena’s fees are significantly less than the APS recommended rate for a 45-60 min session.

If you have a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) or an Eating Disorder Treatment Plan (EDTP) you will receive a rebate of $87.45 for each session, which will reduce your out-of-pocket costs.

Payment processes are all electronic through Halaxy, the APS approved practice management software.  There are two main options for payment:

1) Make a direct bank transfer before the session. An online link will be included on the invoice to make this transfer easy to complete or;

2) The service fee (and card processing fee) will be automatically processed to either a Visa or Mastercard (debit or credit card) after the session. A receipt for payment will then be automatically sent to you.

Please note that there is no cash handling on the premises nor acceptance of personal cheques. This is mainly to streamline payment processes and reduce admin time.
