Psychological Therapy

Psychological therapy is offered on a face-to-face basis in professional therapy rooms offering comfort, privacy and a safe space to reflect.

From January 2021, therapy appointments will be regularly available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between 11:00am to 6:30pm.

Each appointment is 50 minutes. One-off earlier appointments may be possible if needed.

* The 2020- 2021 Federal Budget has also increased the number of sessions available under a MHTP to 20 sessions a year (instead of 10). This means that:

If you have received a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) you are eligible to receive a substantial Medicare rebate of $87.45 for up to 20 individual therapy sessions in the calendar year. There are also Medicare rebates for up to 10 group therapy sessions in the calendar year.

If you have received Eating Disorder Treatment Plan (EDTP) you are eligible to receive a substantial Medicare rebate of $87.45 for up to 40 psychology sessions in the calendar year. There are also Medicare rebates for up to 20 dietetic sessions in the calendar year.

Fees for Therapy:

Dr Salena’s fees are less than the APS recommended rate for a 45- 50 min session.

If you have a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) or an Eating Disorder Treatment Plan (EDTP), there will however still be an out-of-pocket cost for appointments. Bulk-billing is not offered at the clinic.

Please email admin@drsalenab.com.au or call +61 (0) 422 118 941 to make an enquiry or receive further information about fees.

As a response to the Covid-19 crisis, the Federal government have created new temporary Medicare items for the provision of mental health services, including MHTP’s and EDTP’s to be delivered via Telehealth. This means that if you are unable to attend a face to face appointment, you can access a Telehealth service and still be eligible to receive a Medicare rebate until at least March 2021.

You may also be able to claim for psychological therapy under your Private Health Insurance, which could cover a significant portion of your fees depending on your level of cover. Please check your policy or call your Insurance Provider to confirm whether psychology services are covered under your existing plan. Please note, if you are receiving a Medicare rebate for an appointment, you are unable to claim private health insurance on the same appointment.
