Telehealth

Telehealth services involve the provision of psychological therapy via a video consultation or telephone session. 

From January 2021, therapy appointments will be regularly available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between 11:00am to 6:30pm. 

Each appointment is 50 minutes. One-off earlier appointments may be possible if needed urgently.

Telehealth appointments may also be available at other times, depending on Dr Salena’s availability.

*As a response to the Covid-19 crisis, the Federal government have created new temporary Medicare items for the provision of mental health services, including MHTP’s and EDTP’s to be delivered via Telehealth. This means that if you are unable to attend a face to face appointment, you can access a Telehealth service and still be eligible to receive a Medicare rebate until at least March 2021.

* The 2020- 2021 Federal Budget has also increased the number of sessions available under a MHTP to 20 sessions a year (instead of 10). This means that:

If you have received a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) you are now eligible to receive a substantial Medicare rebate of $87.45 for up to 20 Telehealth sessions per calendar year (until at least March 2021).

If you have received Eating Disorder Treatment Plan (EDTP) you are eligible to receive a substantial Medicare rebate of $87.45 for up to 40 Telehealth sessions and 20 Telehealth dietetic sessions (until at least March 2021).

Fees for Telehealth:

Dr Salena’s fees are less than the APS recommended rate for a 45- 50 min session.

If you have a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) or an Eating Disorder Treatment Plan (EDTP), there will however still be an out-of-pocket cost for appointments. Bulk-billing is not offered at the clinic.

You may also be able to claim for Telehealth services under your Private Health Insurance, which could cover a significant portion of your fees depending on your level of cover. Please check your policy or call your Insurance Provider to confirm whether Telehealth services are covered under your existing plan. Please note, if you are receiving a Medicare rebate for an appointment, you are unable to claim private health insurance on the same appointment.

Dr Salena uses the HICAPS Go app, operated through Medipass, which is available to download on a smartphone to  process your private health rebate on the spot. However, as this is a new app, not all health funds are currently subscribed.

Don’t worry if your health fund is not on the list, you will receive an itemised invoice with HICAPS codes so you can claim directly with your health fund provider.
